Sure. I remember one girl, she would say "I'm a chick and gay. I don't like the word lesbian. It reminds me of a lizard for some reason." And when you think about it lesbian does sound kind of like a lizard

Yeah, and I usually use it over lesbian. Lesbian sounds like a porn term which confuses people since I'm not all that sexual. Wish it wasn't viewed that way, but it is.

Same. I don't mind the word in itself, but I prefer to think of myself as a girl who is gay, than a lesbian for some reason. I think it's subconsciously that I've heard too many stereotypical or oversexualised things associated with the term 'lesbian' and whilst 'gay' might incur negative reactions, it seems like a more powerful, recognized word.

TBh, if I were gay I'd prefer the word gay over lesbian :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I'm a lesbian. I think it's a weird word, so am more likely to just say I'm gay. Lesbian just seems like such a nasty word. It's a mouthful and just awkward. Gay rolls off the tongue easier. And on the f-g note- I have been called one many times.

Also, for the "fag" thing, It's usually meant for men. Women tend to be called "dykes" which is the female equivalent of "fag".

I feel like I use gay and lesbian interchangeably. My relationship with another woman would be described as gay but, wouldn't it all depend on what YOU feel comfortable with saying what your relationship is?

I totally get that. I don't want to be seen like some straight guy's fetish. I just want to be seen as a gay who's female.

I used to say ''Lesbian'' but it's freakin' three syllables long so now I refer to myself as ''gay''

Of course! I call myself gay! Look at my profile. It doesn't say lesbian, it says gay. In fact, I prefer "Gay" over "Lesbian". I don't know. Throws me off a little bit when a question on something asks what my sexual orientation is, and it has both "gay" and "lesbian" on there like there is a difference. Sometimes I refer to myself as a lesbian, but usually just gay.

Nah. Fag is pretty gender neutral, the way I hear and see it used. Of course, I only really ever see it used as a joke...so idk.

Sure, although I still think in most people's minds, when they hear "gay" they automatically think gay men. Or when you hear "the gays", its often directed towards men.

I seem to recall a female user on this site who used the term "fagette". I've also seen "transfag" used by both trans men and women!

    I'm using both.

When I want to be specific, I say: I'm a Lesbian.
But usually I say: I'm gay.

But I think gay is actually only for males? I'm not really sure about it ^^

I feel the same. I almost always use 'gay'.

I've been called a fag, a dyke, and anything else you can think of. But also, I prefer gay. Something about LESBIAN seems just weird to me. I am a homosexual woman. Gay is slang for homosexual, so I belong under the umbrella term of GAY.

I tend to use the word 'Gay' to describe myself, don't know why really. I don't not like the word Lesbian or something, it's just easier I guess, saying I'm gay means I'm homosexual, and saying I'm a lesbian means that too, but everyone gets the word gay. Does this make any sense?

Yep, I prefer to use gay rather than refer to myself as a lesbian just because (to me) it implies that I am cisgender when I really don't know. I also like nonbinary people and I really just don't know about guys yet. Maybe one day.

Besides, I refer to myself using adjectives a lot and I find the word 'lesbian' to be a noun. (a personal pet peeve of mine is when people say "you're lesbian" or "I'm lesbian" without the article there in between)

I can't see why lesbians shouldn't be allowed to use the word gay if they want to.

I say more gay than lesbian. I feel more comfortable with it.
