I don't know how to put this lightly, but I've got a bad fetish. Not just "haha, kinky", I'm talking about a deviant fetish considered socially unacceptable in most circles. Won't confirm nor deny which, but I'm fifteen years old, and I want to get rid of it. I don't want to act on it (only masturbated) and frankly, I think I'd kill myself from the shame if I did.

I can still get it off fine to normal things, thank god, but my worry is one day my libido goes out of control and I act on the fetish. Is there a way I can kill my fetish in private? I'd rather not tell anyone IRL of it at all for fear of the inevitable judgement.

Sincerely, a guy who wants to be normal.

Well, although I am curious to know just how unusual your fetish might be, I do have an answer for you.

But just remember, "normal" actually includes a lot of, to say the least, strange fetishes. Watching porn should convince you of that. They wouldn't make it if people didn't want to watch it.

Anyway, when I was a teenager/young man I had a smoking fetish, among several others. I really got off on smoking, and watching guys smoking, and started smoking really just for sexual feeling of it. I always smoked when I masturbated. At the time, I thought it was "weird" but I enjoyed it. It should go without saying that this was before the internet revealed the truth about these things. There's enough smoking porn out there to convince me half the world beat me to this.

In any case, as time went by I kept smoking, but I watched several people close to me die very awful deaths, as a direct result of smoking. I gradually found other turn ons to replace the smoking fetish, and eventually quit smoking, many years ago. While it still interests me, I can't remember the last time I got off watching porn related to this fetish.

So yes, it is possible to suppress, without stress, some fetishes. On the other hand, doing so requires some serious aversive conditioning.

So OK, I know you don't want to tell us what your fetish is, but perhaps you could tell us how common you think it is, based on information from the internet. I'll assume for now that it's nothing illegal.

Considering just how many people there are, and how many fetishes there are... one person's kink is another person's vanilla. Even the really out there stuff is going to have a million or more people who are into it.

It is a pretty big leap to go from fantasy to the physical act in most cases. Just try and skip that part of the internet you find it on.
