    Because I don't break easily. He answered, letting his mind drift enough to his own experiences for the stranger to easily see them. Whipping, rape, branding, being cut, fighting others for the fun of my owner, broken bones, being beaten half to death, starved, not being allowed to drink with water nearby, manipulating me into doing things for the mere false chance of getting out. He mentally listed, dissonantly joyful and warm despite his words.

    Feysal's hand didn't leave the sword, only raised, shaking from the strain of keeping it down. "What about death?" He asked, pushing forward. The ethereal blade passed straight through the stranger, but something else happened. It was as if it had taken away some of his mental and physical stamina, about half.
