Yes, I have always been a perfectionist. One can tell from the amount of times I edit all my responses here. To some degree it may be a manifestation of OCD, but I like to think I just really care about things...

Unfortunately, I am a perfectionist. It's bad because I literally get sick when something I did turns out to be wrong. I always wish to be the best, too. It all disturbs me in my work.

I was recently faced with this question in more formal and public setting. My initial response was "well, no, I wouldn't exactly say *that*"...and then realized that my attempt to find the "exact correct wording" was really just another example of the fact that yes...I am a perfectionist.

The upside is that I tend to do things well...in some cases, extremely well.
Downsides include driving yourself nuts, and the fact that when you become known for doing things well, you find that you're asked to do a lot of things.

Definitely. The only pro I guess is when you do things better as a result of being a perfectionist. The perfectionist in me makes error feel 100x worse than it should be.

i would definately class myself as a perfectionist but its not noticeable all the time and i think a negative is that it shows more when i am stressed and i dont like to be stressed but i guess a positive is i do get a lot done in the time period

    I'm a chronic perfectionist..

I can't go about my day without a door making the right noise when I close it or my shoe laces are slightly different lengths...

Being a perfectionist caused me to develop disordered eating. At one point I was 90 pounds and 5'1. Now I've partiality recovered, but I still deal with perfectionist tendencies.

I prefer precisionist. It somehow feels better than perfectionist idk why but I think they mean the same thing.

Basically, if I aim to do something right, I'll make sure it's absolutely right. Nothing more, nothing less. Not hitting the mark precisely, to me, is a failure.
Everything has to be used to only and up to the amount it needs to be used and nothing is allowed to be out of place.

It's like a one try success thing, which has, and is still causing me an undue amount of stress.

Sort of. I always expect everything to go perfectly and when I'm doing good at something I keep perfecting and adding until it isn't good anymore. If I suck at something though I'll hardly try.

No, because nothing in life is ever perfect, and you're setting yourself up for disappointment in doing so.

Why so many people, especially Americans, are so cut-throat, competitive, obsessed with being #1 and 'perfect' is beyond me. From plastic surgery to having to have the latest phone and car, I just don't get people trying to lead these so called perfect lives.

The mere idea of perfection and the status in society that it confers is abhorrent to me.

No, not really - although like Libertino, I edit my posts a lot because there is usually something else I want to add.

I can be. Sometimes it helps. As a writer, I need to be able to self-edit my stuff and have an eye for what works and what doesn't. But sometimes it back-fires. I have a hard time playing music because I'm too hard on myself sometimes and I need to know when to back off and when to self-edit my playing.

Sometimes I am really a perfectionist while at other times I am not at all.

Very rarely. I don't mind making mistakes.
