mmm... no, it's just silly if you won't date someone on principle because of this, the only thing in question if you should or shouldn't date someone is usually their personality. For me it all comes down to why they own that gun and what they want to use it for. To protect their house and nakama? sure, that's fine. if collecting guns and weapons is their thing, ok, Anything else, meh

Sure I'd date myself! I'm pretty cute!
Haha, like a few others on here have said, it depends mainly on personality. I don't want do be around a crazy apocalypse fearing person who keeps their gun on their nightstand.

Yes. If it were for sport, and they weren't just an extremely violent, terrifying republican. My only concern would be if they turn out to be abusive and threaten to kill me or something, so I'd always be more cautious dating someone with a gun.

Looking back at my response when this thread was first created, I'm not sure if I could or not. As someone who has depression that has gotten quite severe in the not-so-distant past, and who's had suicidal thoughts more than a few times, I will never own a gun because I don't want that opportunity laying around in my house. I suppose we could make it work of things got serious, like keeping them locked up in a safe that I don't have the code to or something like that.

I cant date anyone since I am married, but in a hypothetical world where I was still single YES I absolutely would date a gun owner. I would love to go shooting with him. I am a gun owner myself, in fact one of my guns, a 3 screw Ruger Blackhawk .45ACP, was used to take a life in self defense when it belonged to my uncle. He encountered an illegal alien on his property near El Paso TX, and would have been killed had he not killed his attacker.
Myself, I use my guns for self defense and target shooting, I am not a hunter.

It would depend for me... if it was an antique or an heirloom, sure, but I personally wouldn't want to date a hunter (I don't like meat), or someone who thinks it's cool, or someone who wants to go shooting so much that they have a gun... My family is full of farmers and hunters and gun slingers, so I get why they are practical and even necessary for some people~ but the older I get, the less I can see of a reason why I personally would want one in my home...

Nope. I hate guns. Maybe if it was an antique one, that didn't work.

I'm so sick of all the gun worship in America; if only we worshiped compassion as much.

Maybe. Depends on the person really.

I own guns myself, so it'd be kind of hypocritical of me to flat-out say no.

Currently, my partner does not own any guns. They do want to get their concealed carry. As long as somebody safely carries and stores their weapons, I have no problem with them.

    So, yes, I would.

I would definitely date someone that is a gun owner. I own several my self. For hunting, personal protection, and fun firearms that I've used in matches and just enjoy taking to the range. I don't hunt any longer gave that up five or so years ago. If you're going to hunt, please eat what you hunt. That's why I quit. Trophy hunters are sick individuals. I believe we all have the right to self protection. No having a gun on you does not guarantee that you are protected, but if the need is ever there you'll at least not be helpless while trying to leave the area and wait on the authorities. Which should always be the goal even in your own home. I've taken part in skeet shooting and pistol shooting matches. Going to the range is a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.

If you're going to own a firearm, please get safety training and practice often. Gun ownership can be a fun sport, but needs to be respected.

Depends on what they use them for; hunting (for meat, safely and humanely) and shooting tin cans (or similar object) would not be an issue. If I found my partner wounding animals for sadistic fun I would end our relationship on the spot.

One other reason I would not: It would greatly increase my risk for suicide.

Just having such an object around, when the mood struck, and I wasn't thinking quite right...had a cousin who killed himself with a gun on his 21st birthday, in February, in Michigan, in the snow...and I think: that could me me.

So, no, I would not want a gun around.

    At all.

Plus: more people kill themselves with guns, than other people: the life you end is most likely to be your own, by a wide margin, compared to an act of self defense.

Who would want such an ugly thing in their home, as a gun? I just do not understand.

Yes, I could. Because I would have already vetted the person I'm dating for not having the following unacceptable qualities:

    1) Being sexist,
    2) Being racist,
    3) Being homophobic,
    4) Being transphobic,
    5) Being against violence
