How do you see yourself in your senior years?

I see myself as the eccentric old man who lives by himself, isolated and alone, and is thought of as strange by everyone, but has a hell of a story to tell.

Hopefully I'll be dead before I get that old. If not, I'll be wondering when I will get cancer so I can drown myself. I am so not going through months in a hospital bed.

Well, after I retire, I would hope to spend my senior years with my (future) husband in leisure and also volunteering. I'd also like to have a place in the country with some arable land to have a garden and also some animals for meat*. Maybe we could even get an RV and go on a cross-country trip visiting every National Park.

Honestly, my hope is to die in combat before then. I'm not. Kidding.

Hopefully living in a tranquil place in Europe somewhere  I picture myself being a peaceful old person, probably still writing even at that age

    Grumpy and old.

    Grumpy, lonely and old.

There's an old couple living in the apartment below. The man is 75 and he and his wife cycle around the lake nearby, if not everyday then at least a few times a week, and that's more than 30km. He does pretty much all the groundskeeping for the apartment and he's pretty well kept for his age! I want to be like that.
He mostly has a sweet demeanour but he's overly keen on the lives of others, though. I'd like to avoid that, I do love good gossip.

I honestly haven't allowed myself to look that far ahead into my future. I don't know why that is, perhaps I am just waiting off something or someone to really make me feel like my life is just beginning.

Depends if they can catch my heart disease in time. Dad and Grandpa both had a quad bypass, and my uncle died of a heart attack. So, it really depends on what type of healthcare system we have in 20 years. Grandpa lived to be 81, and my dad is 66. But my dad feels the best he has in 15 some years. He will probably live another 15 years. I could die at 50 or 80. It's a crap shoot.

If I do live that long, I will be the one in the nursing home reading the paper or helping out political candidates even then.

Members of my family tend not to retire until our eighties, so I imagine I'll be working for a decade or so after being eligible for retirement.

There's really no saying; my grandmother suffers from dementia, and that may happen to me. On the other hand, my grandfather and his sister have both recently retired in their mid eighties and are very fit both mentally and physically; my grandfather gardens beautifully and dotes on his dog, and my great aunt spends a lot of time travelling, studying, exercising, and living out the youthful curiosity the Second World War took from her. Their current seniority is defined by things I doubt they would have predicted when they were my age.

In short, one's circumstances can't be decided with clarity from so far ahead, but I hope to be of use until I'm a wrinkly octogenarian. I hope my mental capacity won't diminish in my old age.

Sitting daily by the ocean watching the sunset with both the love of my life and a bottle of rum next to me.

As long as health is okay and my mind alert I'll remain very active and involved in my local community. I've seen too many people retire and isolate themselves in their homes with only a tv or radio for company. That would be my idea of hell.
